Meimuna opalifera (Walker) 애매미

Form: The length of the body is 30mm and that of the wing to the wing is  45mm. The body is black brown and they have a light green patterns on  them. The front wing is long.

 Other characters: The imago appears from July to October. Their crying is very strange. They  live in about 400m high mountains. They don’t choose a special tree but  usually live in broad-leaved tree.

Cryptotympana dubia (Haupt) 말매미

Form: The length of the wing to the wing is 65mm so they are the biggest  Cicadidae in Korea. The body is black and sheeny. 

Other characters: The imago appears from June to September. They usually live in fields or  trees on the low mountain. In Korea, most of them live in Jeju.

Paraplesius unicolor Scott 막대허리노린재

Form: The length of the body is 12~14mm. The color is green and light yellowish brown. The black spots are scattered. The body is thin and long. As the length of the head and front chest and back and stomach is identical, their body shape is bar. The bottom of the body is yellowish brown and the center of the front is black. The legs are dark color and thin and long.

Other characters: They live in Korea and Japan. In “Dongbaekdongsan” of Gotzawal, you can see them lie on the broad leaves.

Physopelta gutta (Burmeister) 귤큰별노린재

Form: There is yellow stripe pattern on the head, chest and stomach. The imago’s body is long and thin. The wings are also long and thin and the edge of them is sharp and transparent. The nerves are thin. The compound eyes are dividied into two by a groove.

Other characters: In day, they usually act in the forests and in night, they flock together around the light.

Atractomorpha lata (Motschulsky) 섬서구메뚜기

Form: The length of the body is 28~42mm. The body is small and light green. The females are much bigger than their counterparts. The head’s shape is a circular cone. The bottom of the back wing is light yellow.

Other characters: You can see them at the grassland or the rice field. As they eat many plants, especially petals, they are treated as a pest. The male, who is smaller than the female, climb the female’s back and they do mating for a long time. The imago appears in June ~ November. They live in Korea, Japan and China.

Blattella nipponica Asahina 산바퀴

Form: They are 11~14mm. The color is wholly light brown. They are similar to cockroach but the stripe on their front chest is more thick and dark. 

Other characters: They usually live in the bottom of forests or fallen leaves. You can see them From June to October. They go through winter as a larva. In winter,  you can see the larvas when you raise leaves on the ground. They experience incomplete matamorphosis. They are wild animals so they  don’t come in home. In Dongbaekdongsan(Gotzawal in Jeju), they can be  seen anywhere(easily), especially in non-moist leaves.

Sympetrum infuscatum (Selys) 깃동잠자리

Form: The length of the stomach is 25~32mm and that of the back wings is  28~37mm. The male is bigger than the female. The female’s pattern on  the edge of the back wings is more darker than that of the male. Both  have two black stripes, one is on the chest and the other is on the  stomach. 

Other characters: The imago appears from July to October and they inhabit hill land or  near the ponds. In autumn, they go down to waterside for distracted.  They live in Korea, Japan and China. In Dongbaekdongsan(Gotzawal in  Jeju), you can see them around the wetland “Meonmulkkak”.

Orthetrum triangulare melania (Selys) 큰밀잠자리

Form: The length of the stomach is 34~36mm, and that of the back wings is 38~40mm. The color of the male’s body is white gray and the  counterpart’s is yellow brown. The female have a black stripe on her body. The front wings are more bigger that the back wings. This dragonflies are  more bigger and nimble than Orthatrum albistylum.

 Other characters: Orthetrum triangulare melania is also called “dragon dragonfly”. The  imago appears from May to October and they inhabit fields, wetland in  deep mountain and so on. In Dongbaekdongsan(Gotzawal in Jeju),  you  can see them aroung the wetland “Meonmulkkak”.

Indolestes gracilis peregrinus 가는실잠자리

Form: They are 28~32mm sized. They go through the season ‘winter’ in brown, but in spring when they prepare mating they become blue. In other  words, they have a protective coloration in winter and a nuptial coloration  in spring.

Other characters: Most of them live in forests. They appear from April to November. They  act as an imago like “Sympecma paedisca (Brauer)”, and they experience  “incomplete metamorphosis“. In Dongbaekdongsan(Gotzawal in Jeju), you  can see them at the wetland “Meonmulkak”‘s surface. Damselflies  including this dragonfly tend to hunt near water, so as soon as you arrive  in  Meonmulkak, you can see them immediately.

Phaneroptera nigroantennata Brunner 검은다리실베짱이

 Form: The body color is dark green and there are black spots on the back. The back side of the stomach is light blue. The ovipositor is green and the egde is light brown.

Other characters: They only live in mountains. They fly between tall plants. They are diurnal. In Southern part of the Korea, you can see one or two generation of them a year and in counterpart, you can see only one generation a year.
