천선과나무(Erecta Fig)

Form : a decideous and broad-leaved bush

Characteristic : Leaves are out of line and oval. Edge of the leaves are smooth. There are no hairs on the both sides but there are some leaves with little hairs on the surface. Fruits get ripe at September to October and it can be eaten when it becomes brown black.

Where you can see in Dongbaekdongsan : It can be seen near the edge of the forest.

이삭사초(Carex dimorpholepis Steud. 사초과)

Form : Perennial herbage

Characteristics : Height is 50~60cm high. Stems grow up together and they are strong. Leaves on the root don’t have a  sheath and the leaves on the stems are flat. Width is of it is 5~7mm and flowers bloom May to June.  Scale pieces of he female flowers are oval shaped and have a brown line. Stigma comes out in 2 branches and fruits are achene.

Dryopteris erythrosora (D.C.Eaton) Kuntze(홍지네 고사리)

 Feature: The scalelike fur is produced on the short and thick root,and the leaves live in group . The oval shaped leaves divide into two. There are sharp fractions on the back of leaves and it gets together.The small leaves are pinnacle like leaves and has sawtooth on the edge of leaves. Because the leaves are red, we call them ‘홍지네 고사리’ in Korean. It lives in shade of  forests

Features: It lives in sunny place. Its height is about 50~100cm and the leaf is 15~30cm in length and 6~15 in width. It has sharp and narrow leaf and has sawtooth on tne leaf. The flower’s diameter is 3~5cm and its corolla is purple or red. Its fruit matures from September to December. Especially, the tiny fur  is 1.6~1.9cm in lengt. Its young plant is edible and the leaf, branch and root has medical funtion.

Dugyeon(두견)-Little cuckoo

The body length is approximately 28cm. Head and neck dark ash and the underside with a lot of horizontal stripes on a white background. At first glance, look like small pieces of thin, but the beak bent down for a little longer, but did not burn like a hawker. They have two legs and each of it has two toe. Appearances is similar to a cuckoo but they are much smaller and bottom of the body has the horizontal pattern with a width 2 ~ 3mm  than Cuckoo’s. The female is simmilar to male but sometimes dark brown with horizontal patterns among them.

They live Korea, Ussuri, China and the Himalayas, Japan, and Taiwan, and India in winter. In summer,  It  is common in South Korea, so you could hear all day in summer. They crying while sitting  in a tree and flying. Usually It’s hard to see them because they hide in the middle height of the tree but it can be seen flying in the sky . They cry all day and night. lay their eggs Northern Bush Warbler and crowned willow Warder’s nest. After hatching, the little cuckoo pull out of nest and grow up in that nest.

Viola verecunda A. GRAY 콩제비꽃

Form :It has hairy white petals with purple lines.
Characteristic : Its height is 5 ~ 20cm. The white flowers bloom from April to May and each runs on flower stalks. The leaf is egg-shaped and its length is 1.5 ~ 2.5cm. The edge of it is saw-toothed. The petiole of leaves from roots are 2to 4 times longer than upper leaves. The fruit is long oval shape and is divided into 3. The petal is 8 ~ 10mm. As perennials, its origin is South Korea. It inhabits the mountains of the wetland.

Cercion hieroglyphicum (Brauer) 등줄실잠자리

Form: The imago is 23~26mm long in stomach and about 15~18mm long in  wings. The male’s color is light blue and they have two black stripes on  their front chest. The stomach is wholly black, but given a detail, side is  light blue. The female’s front chest is light green and they have a black  stripe on their side, but that line is not clear. The stomach is black and  side is light green.

 Other characters: The larva inhabit ponds that have a lot of waterplants in it. Imago appear  from May to September. They live in Korea, Japan and China. In  Dongbaekdongsan(Gotzawal in Jeju), you can see them at the wetland  “Meonmulkak”‘s surface. Damselflies including this dragonfly tend to hunt  near water, so as soon as you arrive in Meonmulkak, you can see them  immediately.
