뽕나무버섯부치(Ringlesshoney mushroom)

Edibility : edible

Time and place of occurrence : generated in summer ~ autumn on the old or dead tree.

Features : The diameter of cap which is golden or light brown is 4~10cm. When they were young, their shape was half of hemisphere. But they become flat while they are growing. The color of mushroom skin is white or brown at first, but it change to brown color with spots. The surface of the stem’s upper side and bottom have vertical lines. The spore is oval and its color is white or light brown. It is formed in the lumber and it’s known to disassemble the lumber.

부채메꽃버섯(Microporus flabelliformis)

Time and place of occurrence  : throughout the year on the old tree or branch of broadleaf tree

Feature : The diameter of cap is 2~5cm and the thickness of mushroom stem is 1~3mm. The shape of the fruit body is fan shape or semicircle shape. The fruit body is hard and has white color. The surface is ring-shaped and has various colors. The stem of the mushroom is columnar soil structure and dark brown.

Features : It grows on the Bamboo, Palm tree and other dry trees and fallen branches from summer to fall. The head of the mushroom is round at first and become flat. The surface of the head has a big viscosity because it is covered with Gellatin. It is light gray and the edge of it is white. When it gets wet, some strings appear. The wrinkle of it is white at first and it turns gray.

Time and place of occurrence : generated in autumn, flocking on the sand in the pine woods and having a symbiotic relationship with plants.

 

Features : The diameter of its cap is 4~10cm, and cap is bell-shaped. They are sticky when wet and the edge is flat and it has stripes. The flesh are white and tastes hot but smells nothing. The color changes white into cream. The length of the sack is 3 ~ 7cm, and thickness is 0.9 ~ 3cm. The size of spores is 7~8×6~7μm and it’s nearly spherical and has many thorn on the surface.

Time and place of occurrence : generated in summer ~ autumn, scattered among the woods.

 

Features : Diameter of its cap is 4 ~ 10cm , and it’s bell-shaped. The surface is reddish brown and the middle part of the surface is little black. Also its surface is sticky when it is moist. The flesh is white and has stripes on the edge. Stem length is 7 ~ 15cm and width is 1 ~ 1.5cm. It has white powdered shaped piece of scaly.  And the size of spores is 12~14μm and shape is spherical.

Time and place of occurrence : generated in spring ~ autumn, on the dead broadleaf tree or on bronken branches

Features : It grows on dead trees together or one by one. Diameter of its cap is 2~8cm long and its round mountain shape changes into shell shape. Its surface has light gray and brown color but it’s also changed into white and light yellow. It smells like flour and tastes soft. The size of spores is 6~10×3~4㎛ and spores are cylindrical pattern in gray, pink, light gray. It is edible but can cause decay in the trees as a white-rot fun-gi.

Time and place of occurrence : generated in autumn ~ early spring, on the dead trunk of broadleaf tree.

Features : It has strong viscosity and the diameter of cap is 2~8cm which color is yellow and tan. The thickness is 2 ~ 8mm and 2 ~ 9cm long. Also it has short hairs densely on its surface. The size of spores is 5~7.5×3~4㎛ and shape is oval. It is edible and it can be used for medical purposes. It is distributed in all regions above.

Live  on broad-leaved ground or fallen leaves.

Because it lives in fallen leaves, People can distinguish them easily.

Especially, it decomposed fallen leaves in forest and popular in spring.

Also, its another name is “밀버섯” in Korean and it’s popular spring mushroom.

Stereum ostrea (갈색꽃구름버섯)

Edibility : Edible unknown.

Time and place of occurrence : generated in summer ~ autumn, on the old tree of broadleaf tree

Features : The diameter of cap is 1~5cm and thickness is 1mm. Its shape is kidney or fan but it is rarely shelf shape. It has a hair of fiber whose color light gray-white alternately on the surface. Also white hair grows tight , ring patten is sag and it doesn’t have whinkle. Gills are hard and its size become irregular. Hymenium of mushroom is smooth and it has many color (white, yellow-white, light dark brown etc.) Hymenium has hypha whose shape is pipe but we can’t see it because it is colorless. Spore size is 5~6.5×2~3µm and shape is long oval. It grows a dead or old tree from a group.

The place you can see in Dongbaek Garden : It grows at trees near walking trail and under branch.

Hericium erinaceum (노루궁뎅이버섯)

Time & Place of occurrence : generated in summer~autumn, at stem of Serrata Oak, Daimyo Oak, etc.

Features : The diameter of cap is about 5~20cm. The shape is the sphere or the egg shape. The upper side of it grows hair, and the side, the back have many drooped thorns. The thorns’ length is 1~5cm, thickness is 1mm. It is sharp. The vertically cut mushroom’s top is a lump of flesh which has many hole and bottom has group of thorns. That thorns’ color is first white and become yellow or light red-brown after. The tissue of thorn is soft. The surface of thorn develop hymenium and has spores shaped like a ball. The spore’s pattern is white and it’s surface has minute bump. Lion’s mane mushroom is wood-rotting fungi. Also when this mushroom become dry, it change like a sponge and absorb water.
