Isu Tree (Distylium racemosum Siebold&zucc.) 조록나무

Form: Evergreen broadleaf tall tree

Characteristic : Leaves’ length is 3 to 8cm, width is 1.5 to 3cm. Leaves are cross each other and thick and oval-shaped or upside down egg-shaped narrow form. Edge is plain and smooth, gloss, and they don’t have down.  Bear fruits’ length is 1 to 1.5cm, woody, surface has dense down, and ripe september to October, They are divided two pieces and seeds come out. They don’t have corolla of a flower and small flowers were composed to red calyxes and they blooms April to may as hermaphrodite. they are tall trees but generally grow shrub and tree’s from is oval-shaped. sensitive at wind, so generally Its upper side grow oposite side of wind’s direction and tree’s bark is red-brown. The home is Korea. in jeju, they grow altitude 1,100m lower part, and they grow Japan and China, too.

Where you can see this species at Dongbaekdongsanl: In Dongbackdongsan, They are easily find as tall tree to shrub at forest’s edge, inside, near walklooks like Wax leaf privet, but Wax leaf privet opposite to each other, and Isu Tree’s leaves grow cross each other.
