Dybowskii’s brown frog (Rana dybowskii) 북방산개구리

Characteristics : Its body is 4~7cm long. It has irregular brown, deep brown or black spots on its back. It also has a black stripe around its eardrums, and spots on its nose. The distinct eardrums are usually round-shaped. Its body is thin and narrow, and protuberance is clear. Its nostrils lean to forward of its mouth and the side line is bended toward the eardrums. The size of eardrums is 2/3 or 3/4 of its eyes, and its web is well developed. A male is smaller than a female.

Ecology : When it lays eggs, you can see it in waterside but it lives in field or forest after laying eggs. It usually lays eggs on February to April but also on January in Jeju. It lays eggs in pond, puddle, riverside and valley.

Where you can see this species at Dongbaekdongsan : On egg-laying season, you can see adults which come to lay eggs and its eggs in the pond or marsh easily. And after that season, you can observe that it lives in a grazing land or forest.
