Black-spotted Pond Frog (Rana nigromaculata) 참개구리

Characteristics : Black-spotted Pond Frog is individually varied a lot. Background color of its back is generally green, brown, fallow and yellow. Center line of back has a vertical line to the anus from the tip of mouth but some of individuals haven’t center line. Right and left back have a vertical line. An adult’s size is generally 6~9cm, a female is bigger than male and they are different with color. Male’s backgound is green and it has clear light blue or light yellow line by center to the anus from the tip of mouth.

Ecology : It usually lives around a pond or marsh. From the middle of April in a pond, valley, marsh and rice paddy, it lays a big spawn, 20cm in diameter, which consists of 2000~4000 eggs. The spawn is not sticky, so it is not stuck on other things and the eggs hatch in water.

Where you can see this species at Dongbaekdongsan : It can be seen at a pond or around a marsh. Especially at Meonmulkkak marsh, it is easily seen in from May to September.
